Clergy Sexual Abuse (CSA) and Clergy Sexual Misconduct (CSM) are rampant in the church. Most people mislabel romantic relationships between pastors and congregants as "affairs," but that is a misnomer -- it is abuse. As you have mentioned, the power differential between pastors and congregants (just as between therapists and clients or between teachers and students) renders such relationships nonconsensual. It seems one of the most effective means of bringing CSA/CSM to a screeching halt is to educate congregations right along with the pastors. Preach about it from the pulpit. Hold seminars about it. Get the word out any way we can. Tamar's Voice is a wonderful organization. I'd also like to add two others: www.faithtrustinstitute.org and www.thehopeofsurvivors.com.

Again, thank you for an outstanding post.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
